anger management!!!

Take a deep breath...inhale...exhale....inhale....exhale.....

No no I have not changed my profession to become a yoga teacher but I wish I could. change my profession and enter an industry that is free from inter personal clashes, ego wars and of course nasty politics. it would be a wonderful and idealistic situation if people started to get what they deserve but alas this is a rare occurrence indeed. like for example, salary hikes. do you think people really get what they deserve? nahhhhh....haven't you seen totally undeserving people get salaries which in no ways is justified by their contribution to the organization. N yet some people prefer to remain quiet and accept whatever comes their way. Well, I think it is all about portraying an image that 'boss, i am working a lot'.

The people who gain the most out of such situations are the ones who 'look busy do nothing'. then I wonder why am I finding it so difficult to just adapt to this scenario and go with the flow? I think perhaps I need to revamp my thoughts and my approach to work. whether i do a lot or not it should at least be 'projected' as a major contribution otherwise I shall fall far behind in the rat race.

but then again a question comes to my mind. even if i do manage to win the race i would still be a rat wouldnt I? Do i really want to exist that way? I don't think so. So what should people like me do? Protest whenever you can or just shut your trap and do nothing about it? I really don't know....but sure hope to find a way out and prove myself not to outsiders but to myself!

So with this positive frame of mind (forced),its goodbye for now:-)

well ranjini, welcome to the real world. office politics and all the nasty things are a part n parcel of our lives. however, i would say don't be a part of the rat race. being a part of the rat race means that u become one of them, just be urself and do what ur heart and ur mind suggests u to do. what's in a rat race? it's all rubbish. be the tigress that u always were, n as far as office is concerned, this bengal mamatadi is always with u to bash up the rest with our combined abilities and capabilities! so cheers

There we go again..another outburst about how the undeserving get all the hike n reward at work and the properly deserving go unnoiticed. You must have noticed a pattern here....this is turning out to be a universal phenomenon. They say if u can't beat them, join them....but the irony is that not everyone can just join 'em and act dumb and stupid for gains.....its difficult and at the end of the day u r left with nothing better to do except perhaps take a deep breath and keep a calm exterior. Trust me everyone had its day......and in the long run it shows how hollow your achievements are and perhaps thats the time when they really fall FLAT on their face!!!!

One of my ex-boss taught me a valuable lesson- it is not only important to be busy, but also to show that you are busy. You talked about those who slog quietly and get peanuts, and those who shout loudly and get coconuts; u missed another minority group who works hard and works smart too. Working smart includes beating the occasional drum, saying the right things, being in the right place, talking forcefully and stepping in uncharted waters in situation of crisis. It usually takes a year or two before someone of this profile starts to draw attention and rapidly grows in importance in the organization. After that, there is no looking back. The biggest P which Kotler did not write about is PATIENCE.

Well, June, my views on office politics are not quite the same. I have taken away such gratifying experiences from my work life that it far outstrips the negatives. I always felt that at the end of each day, if you count your blessings, it decreases the pain of being left out when manna was dropping from the heavens. If you measure work-life with appraisals or the lack of it, then it is a different story. I count my work-life with abiding friendships I have fostered and nurtured. That way, the human element of work is far more gratifying than the monetary rewards. An organization in an inanimate object; it is people who make it breath. I have met some great people at work; and for me, that is the greatest blessing of all.
